I think, (according to the comments on SCG), the reason people are giving Wescoe shit is his apology article.

In the article he says he thought he had to report, and he wouldn’t have reported otherwise; people believe that he was ‘fishing’ for a win/was spiteful towards Levin. They believe he felt guilty (accounts of people at the event claim he was doing ‘damage control’ by lying to people about what he was doing) and his apology is just covering his tracks.

I personally don’t care, what Drew said was stupid, and he shouldn’t have said it, but this should be a good lesson to new ‘pro players’.

About the event itself, I wasn’t there, so I don’t know, but the attitude of people who are like ‘calling judges for stuff is douchebaggery’ is kind of disconcerting. This is a professional ‘sport’, so there are strict rules.

Pasco, about gambling being illegal in MTG, I think it is to avoid degeneration of the game and to keep the attention of real life law away from MTG.

Well, we recorded the episode on Tuesday, before Wescoe’s apology article had been published. He’s been getting shit all along. Whether Wescoe was “fishing” or not, in this instance the fish just sort of dropped into his lap. I don’t think anyone can really fault him, and honestly I’m surprised he apologized. I agree with you, I don’t think he did anything wrong.

I think more people who want to create a competitive mana base with $10 fetch lands and $2-5 manlands have benefited from mythics than those who have been outpriced by Jace.

On an FNM level, Jace isn’t necessary but a solid manabase is always relevent.

All the pros are going to get their Jaces one way or another. But for the people whose only desire is to play at FNM that are complaining, it’s more of a I WANT Jace than a I NEED Jace.
