Awesome episode, guys. It was pretty much just a couple of long rants, but they were rants I am fully in support of.

Joey, you forgot one other point to support your argument: pre-releases used to be two weeks before the set came out, and further in the past they were several weeks before the release. That helped in making them feel special. Now you can go to the pre-release on Sunday and then the launch party the next Friday and it’s almost like the pre-release was the release (if you aren’t in the habit of playing in midweek drafts).

bigheadjoe, I love your attitude towards Sealed. I feel pretty much the same way. I think it’s important to admit that there are some Sealed pools that have a very low chance of top8’ing a PTQ even in a Pro’s hands, but those pools are only a small portion of the total. I loved Sealed PTQ’s because I feel like I am on equal footing when I walk in the door, unlike Standard which requires so much investment and preparation in learning certain matchups. That said, about half of each top eight seems to be composed of a subset of around twenty really good players that go to all of the PTQ’s I attend, so there is definitely a lot of skill involved.

By the way, what are the lyrics to your theme song? All I can make out is “bigheadjoe’s in touch with the rogue metagame” or something like that.

Hey Bighead, thanks for the sealed shenanigans at your place earlier this week. I’m curious: did you look at my pool and build anything differently?
